South Slope is where Strictly Junk Removal lives. Our truck parks on 20th St, a few blocks off the north end of Green-Wood, which means a pickup here is about as fast as we get anywhere. We know which blocks run one-way the wrong direction, where the alleys cut behind the row houses, and how to get a sleeper sofa down a narrow stoop without taking the banister with it.
The housing is mostly three and four story row houses and small walk-up buildings, a lot of them cut into two or three apartments. That means stairs on nearly every job, tight turns at the landings, and doorways framed long before anyone owned a sectional. We carry from the top floor down as a matter of course, and there is no stair fee for it.
Between Prospect Avenue and the low 20s the work splits about evenly. Move-outs and single-item pickups off Seventh and Eighth Avenue, and bigger clear-outs in the houses closer to the cemetery, where families have been in the same building long enough to fill a basement twice over.

Row houses and small walk-ups
Most South Slope buildings top out at four floors with no elevator, and the stairwell turns hard at each landing. Anything wide, a box spring, a wardrobe, a sleeper sofa, has to be angled or taken apart on the way down. We work that out before we start carrying rather than discovering it at the second-floor turn.

The side streets between Fifth and Eighth are narrow and mostly one-way, and alternate side parking takes out half the curb on any given morning. Do you cover the Greenwood Heights side of South Slope?
Yes, all of it. The line between South Slope and Greenwood Heights has never been settled, and we don't need it to be. Both sides of the Prospect Expressway, down along Green-Wood Cemetery to 39th Street: if you're anywhere in that stretch, you're in our range.
Do you work in the newer condo and elevator buildings, or just the row houses?
Both. The condo buildings that went up after the 2005 rezoning run on different rules than the old housing stock: booked service elevators, certificates of insurance, protected hallways. We sort that out with the management directly so the pickup isn't stalled in the lobby.
Can you clear a storefront on Fifth or Seventh Avenue?
Yes, and we usually do it before you open or after you close. Fifth and Seventh are the neighborhood's main commercial streets, mostly storefronts under apartments, and a crew hauling fixtures across the sidewalk at noon costs you customers. Refits, fixture swaps, full clear-outs at the end of a lease: we schedule around your hours.
Do you handle snow removal in South Slope too?
We do. Snow removal is part of our Brooklyn service, and this is the neighborhood where the truck parks. New York winters swing hard, a dusting one year and more than two feet in a single day another, with most of it landing between December and late March. When it comes down we clear sidewalks, stoops, and curb cuts.
