Junk removal in Gowanus

Warehouses, studios, and loft space around the canal. Wide streets and real loading access make this some of the easiest hauling in Brooklyn.

Gowanus still works like an industrial district, and that changes what a junk job looks like here. Low-rise warehouses, converted manufacturing buildings, artist and maker studios, contractor yards, and a growing stack of new residential going up along the canal.

The practical upside is access. Third Avenue and the blocks running toward the canal are wider than anything in the brownstone neighborhoods, plenty of buildings have a roll-up door or a real loading bay, and the freight elevators were built to move pallets rather than parcels. Big, heavy, awkward loads are genuinely easier here.

Most of our Gowanus work is commercial. Studio and workshop clear-outs when a lease ends, pallets and crating, scrap metal and material offcuts, old racking and shelving, and construction debris from the conversions and ground-up builds. We cover the residential lofts and newer buildings too.

Built for the heavy, awkward stuff

Roll-up doors and freight elevators mean we can take on machinery, racking, and full workshop loads here that would be a nightmare out of a fourth-floor walk-up.

On the ground

What working in Gowanus actually involves.

  • Loading bays and freight, not stoops

This is one of the few Brooklyn neighborhoods where we can usually back right up to the door. Roll-up doors, loading docks, and freight elevators rated for real weight mean we can take on machinery, racking, and full workshop clear-outs that would not be practical out of a walk-up.

  • Working around a working neighborhood

Plenty of Gowanus buildings share a yard, a curb cut, or a loading bay with the business next door. We time the truck so we are not blocking someone else's delivery window, and we coordinate with building management on gate access and after-hours entry when a job needs it.

  • What we clear most here

Studio and workshop clear-outs at end of lease, pallets, crating, and packaging waste, scrap metal and offcuts, old racking, shelving, and workbenches, plus construction and demolition debris from the canal-side conversions.

Good questions

Gowanus questions, answered.

Do you do same-day junk removal in Gowanus?

Often, yes. Our base is in South Slope, a few minutes from anywhere in Gowanus, so short-notice pickups usually fit the day's route. Call in the morning and there's a good chance the truck is at your door before evening.

Can you clear a flooded basement or cellar in Gowanus?

Yes, and it's regular work here. Much of Gowanus sits at sea level in a Zone A flood zone, and heavy rain still floods streets and backs up sewer lines. We haul out waterlogged contents completely, and nothing from a flooded cellar gets mixed into a donation load.

What do the new apartment buildings in Gowanus require for a pickup?

Usually a certificate of insurance and a reserved freight elevator, and we handle both. The 2021 rezoning is adding 8,500 apartments along the canal, and most of the new buildings won't let a crew up without that paperwork. We square it with management before the truck rolls.

Do you cover both sides of the canal?

Yes, every block from Wyckoff Street down to the Gowanus Expressway, both sides of the canal. The canal splits the neighborhood mid-block, and trucks cross at just five streets: Union, Carroll, Third, Ninth, and Hamilton Avenue. We pick the crossing when we plan the route, so the truck is on your side before the carrying starts.
